Hong Kong's First Serviced Apartment Brand to Provide WHO-Standard Clean Air

Visitors to the smoggy city can now breathe a sigh of relief thanks to CHI Residences

(Hong Kong, September 15, 2011) - CHI Residences is to become Hong Kong’s first Serviced Apartment brand to provide superior indoor air quality that meets and exceeds World Health Organisation Standards (WHO) as adopted by the Hong Kong government through the introduction of Oxyvital air purification technology. CHI Residences is in the process of installing Oxyvital units in all four existing buildings around Hong Kong, with the first installation in CHI’s flagship residence at 120 Connaught Road West already complete. Oxyvital units are also being planned for the company’s new Wan Chai development CHI130, scheduled to open in early 2013.

Visitors’ Health At Risk

Despite frequent ‘danger warnings’ from Hong Kong government bodies, University-led studies and front-page media headlines on the detrimental effects of air pollution on health, many Hong Kong hotels and serviced apartments have chosen to ignore these, or use inferior equipment, putting the wellbeing of their clients and staff at risk. Now, for the first time thanks to CHI Residences, long and short-term visitors to Hong Kong have the option of staying in a clean air environment that exceeds the high standards set by the WHO.

With the installation of Oxyvital, CHI Residences can now offer guests the convenience of a great location in the heart of the city, with the comfort and safety of the freshest air quality available. “You can’t put a price on health”, says CHI Residences CEO, Pilar Morais. “We want our guests to enjoy the many wonderful things about Hong Kong, but we also want to take care of their wellbeing and ensure they don’t suffer any negative effects of air pollution during their stay”, she added. CHI’s pollutant-free air also makes it the perfect environment for guests with existing health problems that are aggravated by air pollution, such as asthma, and for families with small children who are most susceptible to pollution.

Competitive Edge

Hong Kong’s poor air quality is a continuous worry for visitors and residents alike and Ms. Morais spent months researching various air purification systems for CHI, before deciding on Oxyvital. “As the city’s leading serviced apartment provider, we had to have the best air purification technology on the market right now – and that is Oxyvital”, she says.

Oxyvital, a world’s best practice air purifier, uses German technology that has been certified by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as the only one yet tested to meet and exceed World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines for achieving optimal indoor air quality. Oxyvital has a four-stage filtration process and works on a molecular level to successfully reduce all nine WHO-listed indoor air pollutants to safe levels, without emitting toxic by-products.

Virus Scare

Aside from air pollution, airbourne viruses such as SARS and Avian Flu are a concern for many travelers. In 2010, Oxyvital underwent independent testing by the Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) to confirm its effectiveness against the spread of airbourne viruses. The report released in November 2010 confirmed that Oxyvital air purifiers have 100% efficiency in the removal of airborne viruses including H5N1, H1N1 and SARS after 120 minutes in operation. The results state that Oxyvital air purifiers have a ONE-PASS or FIRST-PASS viral disinfection rate of 99.93%. That means, for every cycle of air that passes through the Oxyvital machines, 99.93% of the airborne viruses are reduced per cycle. Each cycle takes approximately 12 seconds.[1]

Installation Process

The Oxyvital installation is taking place in four phases. CHI 120 has had 20 Oxyvital air purification units already installed, one for each of their 19 spacious 1-bedroom apartments and 1 for their management office. The second phase, which is currently underway, will see 59 Oxyvital units installed at CHI 314, which features 57 contemporary studio, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments (the 2-bedroom apartments will have 2 Oxyvital units installed), as well as 1 for the management office. The third phase will be the installation of 25 Oxyvital units into CHI 279’s 24 1-bedroom apartments and 1 management office, which will be completed at the end of this year.

The fourth phase is currently in planning and will include the installation of Oxyvital units at CHI 393 on Shanghai Street and at the company’s new development CHI 130, located at 130 Johnston Road. CHI’s new luxury 25-storey complex consists of 13 studios, 25 one-bedroom, three 2-bedroom, and four top floor 2-bedroom duplex apartments, 2 of which have private access to roof gardens, ideal for families or groups. CHI 130 also features a swimming pool and is situated right in the middle of the city’s booming business district, near to Central, Admiralty and the HK Convention and Exhibition Centre. CHI has also installed Oxyvital units into the Head Office, which is based in Central to ensure that all CHI employees benefit from the highest indoor air quality available.

This being our second stay, we felt like we were going home. Everyone is so kind and Johnny was always there to go beyond expectations.
